History and Information about the Harp
The harp is one of the oldest stringed instruments, dating back as far as 3500BC. While the shape, size, and tuning of harps vary around the world, the concert or pedal harp is most common in Western music. The strings are tuned like the keys on a piano and are plucked individually. The harp is featured extensively in classical music, but is also used in pop and folk genres. When you learn the harp, you will have access to a wide range of songs and pieces to learn.
When to Start on the Harp
You can start harp lessons as young as age 6, depending on a student’s dexterity and hand size.
Getting a Harp
Please call us for a recommendation of a place to rent or purchase a harp. Harps are large, generally expensive instruments, so for very young students, it is recommended to rent at first. This is for two reasons: 1) they will most likely grow out of instruments quickly and 2) they may lose interest (although we hope they don’t!).
