History and Information about the Alto Voice
Singing is the oldest form of musical expression. Humans have been using their voice to make music since music was invented. The second highest voice type is known as alto, and is usually sung by women, although some men train their voices to sing in the same range. Alto vocal music has a long and extensive history, so when you take voice lessons you will have access to a huge range of music to learn, including classical, jazz, blues, rock, pop, folk, and almost every other imaginable genre.
When to Start Voice Lessons
You can start taking voice lessons as young as 5 or 6, although some teachers recommend starting a bit later to allow more time for the child’s voice and vocal cords to develop. For lower voice types such as alto, a young child may start out singing as in the soprano or “treble” range and then switch as their voice changes with age. We leave these decisions up to our teachers.
