Lesson Details
I am a friendly, patient teacher who thrives on building trust with my students. Helping people understand the depth and sincerity of music is my passion. During individual lessons, I focus on students' strengths and weaknesses to help them achieve their musical goals. By personalizing every lesson to fit the needs of my students, I have found great success.
While I do believe that performing is an important part of learning to master any instrument, I also know that providing a student with the fundamentals of music theory and history is essential. In a typical lesson, a student will learn staff reading, tonal theory, scales and warm-ups, chord progressions, keyboard harmony, articulation, expression, and technique. I also prepare students for NYSSMA Levels I through VI. I believe that once the fundamentals of music are understood, a musician can learn any style or piece of their ability. I am happy to teach you any style you would like!
Music serves many purposes: academic growth, appreciation, and emotional development, among others. It enforces structure while still being enjoyable for the musician. I believe that is never too early for a student to learn music! I have taught students as young as three years old. I will prove to make your lesson fun and enjoyable!
I believe that music is a universal language that everyone can relate to. I know all people are capable and have the ability to learn music. I hope to inspire others to continue a life filled with music!
About Me
Stephanie is a professional pianist and teacher who loves collaborating with others and teaching the art of music. She has been studying classical piano since 1990 and is still currently performing. Her studies have brought her to make various television performances since 1995; piano accompaniment to her middle and high school choruses; classes at the University of Stony Brook Pre-College Music Program from 2002 - 2004, including performances in the Staller Center; international performances and participation in the Weiner MusikSeminar in Vienna, Austria in 2001, under the study of renowned pianist and professor Victor Teuflmayr; and participation in New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) from eight to fourteen years old, receiving perfect scores in Level VI for piano.
In this past May of 2009, Stephanie received a Master of Arts in Teaching from Manhattanville College, immediately following a Bachelor of Music in 2008, majoring in music education and piano performance. During her years at Manhattanville College, Stephanie studied piano technique and performance with Dr. Francis Brancaleone, graduate of Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Queens College, and City University of New York. She was a solid dean's list student, tutor of music theory, and assistant to the choral director at the college. Stephanie's studies in chamber music, piano, chorus, and orchestra led her to performances at Lincoln Center and Don't Tell Mama's in Manhattan, a September 11th Memorial concert for the Westchester County Executive, and Manhattanville College alumni and student events. She was also elected president of M.E.N.C. and has also won numerous awards for both her piano and education skills.
Stephanie is an experienced music teacher who has worked with students aged three through adult in Suffolk and Westchester County. She has taught private piano lessons for three years; taught high school guitar and elementary general music classes in White Plains City School District; coached and piano accompanied vocalists at The Summit School in Nyack, NY, a private school for the emotionally disturbed; and taught elementary music classes to economically challenged students at Third Street Music School Settlement in Manhattan.
