Michael Ferraiuolo, from Long Island New York didn’t have to look far to find his outlet as a child. An old guitar was all he needed to not only find his way in the world but to bring his gift to it as well. At the age of 14, Michael began experimenting with writing songs and by the time he turned 15 he had amassed an impressive collection of original tunes. Michael would continue to write and compose in the years to come, but would find his sights firmly set on the stage.
Michael's singing addiction eventually led him to the musical theater. Reveling in the joy of live performance, Michael quickly found himself at home in the skin of such characters as “Pippin’s” Leading Player, “Cabaret’s” M.C. and the ever wily Big Bad Wolf from “Into the Woods”. It was during this crucial time that Michael was able to indulge his passion for performance while still honing his skills as a song writer.
After some time in the theater Michael felt the need to regroup. His desire to explore performance as a solo artist was a growing one and his collection of original material was ready to be heard. After several well attended and reviewed club dates Michael was approached by producer Stan Vincent. Working under the guidance of Mr. Vincent, Michael was able to write, co-produce and record several tracks which would later be included in a limited release L.P. for Arista Records. Michael, now a working singer/song writer was still not satisfied with what he knew, he wanted more.
It was when Michael found his way to Berklee College of Music that he felt his musical muscles begin to truly grow. Under the careful guidance of Berklee Voice Department Chair Jan Shapiro and others, Michael’s course of study culminated in his development of a new technique for vocal pedagogy. During his time at Berklee Michael was able, through the cooperation of the school and the Massachusetts Pro-Arts Consortium to instruct students from highschool to college level with his new method. Comfortable with jazz, classical, pop/rock and the theater Michael’s versatility as a vocalist has afforded him flexibility as a performer. Michael has been fortunate enough to share the stage with performers such as Livingston Taylor, Chaka Khan, James Taylor and most recently Melissa Etheridge. He continues to work as a commercial singer, composer, arranger, lyricist and most important to him, a teacher.
