Age groups and Requirements:
Ages 7 ½ to 9, 10 to 13, 14 + would be our ideal age groupings , however if a student is at least 9 and shows a certain amount of proficiency on their instrument it may be best if they play in a different age group or higher ensemble level .
7 ½ year olds must be of age prior to starting ensemble classes and all other age groups must be of age prior or turning of age within a minimum of 4 months for any ensemble class.
We recommend a student have at least one year of private instruction on their instrument and they may have to be evaluated before being placed into a certain ensemble.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is your focus for ensembles on Guitar, Bass, Drums ,and Piano ?
We feel the students of these instruments have been neglected in our school systems and find it necessary for them to be able to play in group situations which is a valuable experience for any instrumentalist.
2. How many people will play in each ensemble?
Our instrumentation is mainly for Quintets ( 5 ) , however we may be able to add a few more instruments ( i.e. trumpets , flutes , percussion ) . Some instruments can also double parts such as guitars and pianos and we may also offer Trio ( 3 ) playing in the future.
3. What kind of Music and what skills will be attained in performing in these ensembles?
For novice student's simple Jazz and Blues music is our main focus we will also involve more advanced Jazz, Rock, and Blues as they progress. Reading, theory, improvisation, ear training, music history will be some of the key benefits of learning how to play in a group situation.
4. Will the students perform in concerts?
One of our goals is to have students perform at nursing homes, libraries, festivals, recitals or any other venue who would welcome us.
5. What equipment and materials do I need to bring to the ensemble?
It depends upon instrumentation. If you play Guitar, Bass or other instruments that are easily transportable you should bring them. In General we will supply a Keyboard, Drums and any necessary Amplification to accommodate various instruments.
6. Who will teach the ensembles?
We use qualified music professionals familiar with teaching and performing various rhythm section instruments.
7. Are there any weeks or days ensembles will not be scheduled?
Ensembles will not be scheduled during periods of major holidays or school vacations. We do plan to have summer ensemble programs in the future, however at this point in time they will coincide with the school year.
8. What are the Ensemble levels will the bands have names?
For our purposes ensembles will be named using numbers along with the instrumentation (i.e. 1 A Quintet, 2 Trio) however it would be fine to have the students name a band whatever they wish.
